Ever wanted to learn about the stars and planets above, but never wanted to worry about class
grades? Community Astronomy 101 is for you then. You will have hands-on experience using telescopes, cameras, and binoculars. If you ever thought about what kind of telescope to buy, or how to use a telescope that was given to you, this too is the class for you. Topics covered: constellations, history of discovery, secrets of starlight, lives of stars, black holes, dark matter, nebula, galaxies, star clusters, northern lights, the sun, and cosmology.
By the completion of this course, you will have successfully accomplished the same content that is taught in a college introductory astronomy class, without the stress of tests or grades. Each class will consist of two parts, a lecture discussion lasting an hour and an observation demonstration lasting the last hour, this will be where you will actually do astronomy. This course will be fun; astronomy is something everyone can do if they just look up into the sky.
The cost of the course materials will be $75.00 (bring cash or check on the first day of class). Classes will be held at the East Grand Forks Heritage Village Amundson classroom (219 20 Street NE, East Grand Forks, MN).
